The "Vīksnes House" was built in 1902 and designed by German-Baltic architect Alfred Aschenkampff. It housed a luxurious fashion salon and stationery shop before World War I. During the Soviet years, the building was the home of Latvian poet Mirdza Ķempe (a memorial plaque is installed on the building), as well as author and composer Marģeris Zariņš.
